Steppes and lakes

Welcome to this motorcycle tour through Mongolia, the legendary country of Ghengis Khan. During twelve days you will discover this immense country, with steppes and valleys at a loss of sight, lakes, sand dunes and oof roads tracks. But above all you will see a nomadic world living in cozy yurt camps, a true symbol of the country. Mixed route 50% track 50% asphalt, of approx. 1700 kms. Dirt tracks and hard grass with some of them with sand without great difficulty. Nevertheless you need a basic knowledge of driving on tracks. Travel on a KTM 450/690 or BMW GS 800F motorcycle.

Cancellations due to COVID

In the event that you cannot make your trip due to COVID, we will refund your entire reservation or you can choose to postpone it on another date and for any of our tours for free.

Day 1 Arrival in Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to the hotel in the center of Ulaanbaatar. Free day to visit the capital and its famous statues and buildings from the Soviet era. Meeting in the afternoon at 5pm at the hotel with the group. Briefing about the country and travel program. Hotel at Ulaanbaatar .


Day 2 Ulaanbaatar - Khogno Khan Little Gobi. (5hr, 90% tarmac). Day on tarmac road, except for the last kilometers to access our camp. In the morning, first contact with our motorcycles and with the assistance team. Early departure from our hotel, and after zigzagging through the chaotic traffic of Ulaanbaatar first views of the Mongolian steppe. Stop for lunch and arrival by off road track to our comfortable gear camp near the Khogno Khan National Park. Free afternoon to discover the slopes and tracks around the park. Night in yurts.


Day 3 Khogno Khan (Little Gobi) - Karakorum. (3h30 90% tarmac). We left by off road track towards the dunes of Khogno Khan known as Little Gobi. After enjoying the dunes with the motorcycles we continue our way to Karakorum, the ancient capital of the Mughals in the 13th century. Visit of its palaces and archaeological remains. We’ll have many changes to see for the first time the famous Mongolian eagle hunters in their typical costumes. Arrival at our yurt camp.

Day 4 Karakorum - Orkron. (6hr 100% off-road). Today we have off-road tracks throughout our journey. Winding tracks following the course of the river and we may have to cross a river ford depending on the conditions of the route and bridges. We arrived in the Orkron Valley in the afternoon. Our gear camp is only two kilometers away. Night in yurts.

 


Day 5 Orkron. Rest day in the Orkron Valley. Rest day to see the impressive waterfall just a few kilometers from our camp or, for those who want, the option of going on a horseback excursion around the valley. Night in yurts.


Day 6 Orkron -Tsenher. (6hr 100% off-road). We continue along off-road tracks with a landscape that gradually becomes more mountainous. We cross the Jangái Mountains with pine forests and two mountain passes, to descend again to the steppe when we reach . Tsenher is known for its famous thermal water baths, which after this day on a motorcycle, you can enjoy drinking a beer in the pool of our camp. Night in yurts.


Day 7 Tsenher - Lake Terkhinn. (5hrs 70% tarmac). Today we reach the westernmost point of our trip that ends at Terkhinn Lake, stopping to see Taikhar Rock. According to legend, the rock is the stone that a giant threw to crush a snake. Lunch at a roadside restaurant in front of a gorge overlooking the river. We reached Lake Terkhinn by 15 kms of off-road track to our gear campsite on the lake. Night in yurts.


Day 8 Lake Terkhinn - Tsetserleg. (4hr 90% tarmac). In the morning, short excursion to discover the Khorgo crater, just 3kms away from our camp. After the first 15 kms by dirt road we join the main road to arrive in the afternoon at Tsetserleg. Night in yurts.


Day 9 Tsetserleg - Lake Ogii. (5hr 90% off-road). After 30 kms on tarmac we turn to the north to take the track, with some sandy stretches but without too much difficulty. Today we may see herds of wild two-humped camels typical of Mongolia and Central Asia. We arrive at our camp on the shores of Lake Ogii. Night in yurts.


Day 10 Lake Ogii - Lun Camp in the middle of the steppe. (4h30 80% tarmac). For early risers, sunrise is the best time to spot the more than 150 species of migratory birds in the lake. After breakfast, departure to the dunes of Lun where to spend some time with the motorcycles. Overnight in the middle of the Mongolian steppe in our mobile tent camp. We will have typical food made by our cooks and a farewell party around a good bonfire.


Day 11 Mon - Hustain Nuruu - Oulang Batoor. (3h30 100% tarmac). Last day of motorcycle heading to the capital. Stop in the Hustain Nuruu National Park to see takhis horses, an original and unique species. To avoid the traffic of Oulan Batoor we leave our motorcycles and transfer by van to the hotel in the center. Night in hotel.


Day 12 Departure of international flights and transfer to the airport according to the schedule of your airline. End of trip and our services.

Duration of the tour:

12 days 11 hotel nights (day 1 to 11 included). 10 days on a motorcycle. Meeting on day 1 in Ulaanbaatar. Companions or passengers who wish to make the trip may do so on a motorcycle or in the assistance vehicle. Your international flight will need to arrive and depart from Ulaanbaatar. Travel on a KTM 450/690 or BMW GS 800F motorcycle.


The price includes:

Weather

During the tour period the average temperature in Mongolia during the day is 18 ° / 20 °, although it gets quite cool at night or early in the morning. High level sun protection, sunglasses and gloves are recommended.
Motorcycle equipment: Helmet (the best is a modular one) jacket, gloves, summer boots. Suit for motorcycle rain (It is not the rainy season although it is not uncommon for a storm in the afternoon.)

Road and Driving Conditions in Mongolia

Tour of intermediate level, with mixed 50% off-road/tarmac roads of approx. of 1700 kms. The condition of the paved roads in Mongolia is correct. The tour, although half is on off-road, does not require a high level of off-road technique and is suitable for drivers intermediate off-road pilots.

 

1*- Registrations will be made in strict order of the reservation date. Which means that if you book last minute, you may have to opt for a single room if there is no other person to share a double. You know, the earlier you make the reservation, the more chances you will have to sleep in a double room.

2*- It is mandatory to subscribe a travel assistance insurance that covers the use of a motorcycle. If you don't have one with your credit card or with your car or motorcycle insurance. This type of insurance covers medical expenses abroad and repatriation by plane in case of illness or accident.
